Livtock Camp @ Branch County

Michigan 4-H Livestock Camp

4-H'ers age 10 and up are invited to participate in the Michigan 4-H Livestock Camp, June 28-30, at the Branch County Fairgrounds in Coldwater, Michigan. The three-day camp offers intensive hands-on sessions on beef cattle, dairy cattle, dogs, feeder calves, goats, horses, rabbits & cavies, poultry, sheep, swine and large animals sweepstakes session.


Each specie session will provide the opportunity to learn more about the animal selection, proper handling and care, fitting, showing, and project related ethics. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the newest livestock-related technology, plus test their skills in a computer lab with interactive CD?s covering the species of their choice. All sessions include hands-on activities.


4-H?ers must be 10 years of age by January 1, 2010 for most sessions. For the Sweepstakes session participants must be at leader 14 years old and have two years of showing experience at a county fair. For the horse and beef sessions, participants must have exhibited the species at least once previously in the youth division of their county fair in order to be eligible to attend camp.


The registration fee for the camp is $100. It covers meals from dinner for early arrivals on June 27 through lunch on the 30th and all educational materials. Partial scholarships are available. Campers must bring their own livestock (except swine) with them to camp. Adult chaperones are needed.
